Discussion Questions: Your Only Savior

Read Isaiah 43:1-11 and consider these questions:

  1. What is the most frequent command in the Bible? What does the frequency of that command say about God’s knowledge and concern for you and your fears?
  2. What is the relationship between the creation of man and God’s redemption and formation of the nation of Israel (vs. 1; Gen. 2:7; Ex. 6:7)? How do these words describe your salvation and the formation of His church?
  3. What do the metaphors of fire and water frequently represent in the Bible (vs. 2; Gen. 6:13, 17; Ps. 66:12; Ps. 69:1-2; Dan. 3:8-30; Lk. 17:26)? How is the Lord’s promise to be with you in the water and fire a comfort to you (Rom. 8:31-39)?
  4. What ransom does the Lord promise to pay for Israel’s deliverance (vv. 3-7)? How does Jesus pay the ransom for your salvation (Mk. 10:45; Gal. 3:10-13; 2 Cor. 5:21)?
  5. What does the Lord indicate is the purpose of God’s people (vv. 8-11)? How does the church reflect that today (Acts 1:8; 1 Pt. 2:9)?
